Ultrasound
VisitHealth's ultrasound machines are designed to accommodate you wherever is suitable for your needs - whether that’s in the VisitHealth medical centre or wherever you are. If travel is difficult, or inconvenient, our specialists will come to your home or place of care to suit you during the day time.We work with Fujifilm because its imaging is world-class, and the company has been the leading innovator in high-performance imaging diagnostics for the past 20 years.
An ultrasound, also sometimes called a sonogram, is a safe procedure with no risk to the patient. It is used to diagnose
the causes of pain, swelling and infection in the body's internal organs. A moving image is created on a monitor by a
small handheld probe used in the body or on the skin. The probe gives off high-frequency sound waves which pass easily
through tissue. These waves bounce off the internal organs, veins and other structures in the body being investigated,
and a computer creates the images based on the time it takes for the ultrasound signal to return. A radiologist then
reviews the pictures to diagnose any issues.
Ultrasound is used to examine the body’s internal organs such as:
- Heart and blood vessels
- Bladder
- Kidneys
- Pancreas
- Spleen
- Thyroid
- Pelvic region in men and women
- Gallbladder
- The progress of the unborn baby in utero
- Stomach issues, such as kidney stones or bloating
- Disease, cysts, tumours, obstructions or infections
- Pelvic issues, including infertility
- Kidney or bladder stones
- Aortic aneurysm
- Gallstones
- Ectopic pregnancy
